Bouachour 1996	An RCT of HBOT involving 36 patients with crush injuries, 26 of whom had fractures. The focus was on traumatic soft‐tissue injury. The trial is reported in a Cochrane Review on HBOT for acute surgical and traumatic wounds (Eskes 2010).

Lindstrom 1998	RCT involving 20 participants with intramedullary nailing of tibial shaft fractures. No clinical outcome reported.
Mathieu 1990	Review ‐ no RCT data.
Wang 2002	Review only, no new data.
Williamson 2006	An RCT of HBOT involving patients with severe open tibial fractures (Gustillo 3B,3C). This was abandoned after 17 patients and, though the patients were followed up, no outcome data were available in the abstract report of this trial. Experience with this trial led to an international collaboration for a multi‐centre RCT (see ongoing trial NCT00264511).
