Classification of the COVID-19 Severity

Classifications Definitions
Non-severe COVID-19 Patients have non-specific symptoms, such as fever, cough, fatigue, myalgia, pharyngalgia, but have no signs of dehydration, sepsis, or shortness of breath. The radiological examination shows no signs of severe pneumonia.
Severe COVID-19 Adult cases meeting any of the following criteria in the quiescent state:
(1) Respiratory distress (respiratory rate ≥ 30 breaths/min);
(2) Peripheral capillary oxygen saturation (SpO2) ≤ 93%;
(3) Arterial partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2)/fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO2) ≤ 300 mmHg;
(4) Pulmonary lesion progression exceeds 50% in 24–48 h
(5) Respiratory failure that requires mechanical ventilation;
(6) Shock;
(7) Organ failure that requires to be managed in intensive care unit.
