Example noun phrases ranging from Literal to Mixed to Associative. The further to the right, the more ’detached’ the NP referent becomes from its physical location. Literal heads tend to be concrete (elections, accidents) and static (buildings, natural features) while associative heads are more abstract (promises, partnerships) and mobile (animals, products). In any case, context is the main indicator of type and needs to be combined with NP semantics
