Figure 3. Current and possible future interventions to prevent and reverse transition of MHO to MUO. Several factors are involved in the development of metabolic unhealthy obesity (left panel). Therefore, to prevent or reverse transition of MUO to MHO (right panel) it is necessary to adopt healthy lifestyle changes. However, lifestyle changes alone will be insufficient for many, such that combination with drugs that directly reverse metabolic abnormalities of MUO and/or promote substantial weight loss, or bariatric surgery is likely to be also required.
