Phase contrast image (1000× magnification) of non-immortalized intestinal porcine derived jejunal cells (IPEC-J2) challenged with 10 ⁸ cells of a green fluorescence protein (GFP)-labeled Salmonella Typhimurium previously exposed for 10 min to 0 or 18 mg wood-derived prebiotic/mL of medium. Results show that IPEC-J2 cells challenged with the GFP-labeled S. Typhimurium cells previously exposed to the wood-derived prebiotic product were qualitatively bound by far fewer GFP-labeled S. Typhimurium (A) than IPEC-J2 cells challenged with GFP-labeled S. Typhimurium having no exposure to the wood-derived prebiotic product (B).
