PM2.5 aggravates pneumococcus-induced pulmonary pathogenesis. Mice were administered PM2.5 and pneumococcus-infected as described in Fig. 4. After euthanizing the mice, lung sections were subjected to hematoxylin/eosin (H&E) staining (n = 4 per treatment group). The lower panel shows magnified images of the cropped areas.
