Fig. 2 — Each line represents an IBD segment inferred between a unique pair. IBD segments have been coloured according to whether both individuals within a pair belong to the same family; or whether they belong to different families and are otherwise considered unrelated (UR). All three sporadic ALS patients with SOD1 variants were considered unrelated. Family 18 had the greatest number of IBD segments inferred over SOD1 as this family had the greatest number of cases sequenced, followed by family 12. Many IBD segments were inferred over SOD1 between apparently unrelated individuals, suggesting these individuals were part of an extended family.
