Erastin inhibits viability, induces death and activates autophagy in breast cancer cells. (A) MTT assay demonstrated that erastin inhibited the viability of MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells in a dose-dependent manner. (B) LDH release assay demonstrated that erastin enhanced breast cancer cell death in a dose-dependent manner. (C) Western blotting and (D) quantification demonstrated that erastin upregulated the expression levels of beclin1, ATG5, ATG12 and LC3B, and downregulated the expression of P62 in a time-dependent manner. *P<0.01 vs. control untreated group.
