A two-compartment model STE,b=ν1expTE/T21expbD1+1ν1expTE/T22expbD2 - in which the two compartments can have different T2 - represented by STE,b=STE,0(f1TEexpbD1+1f1expbD2). Rearranging the equations gives f1TE=ν1expTE/T21/ν1expTE/T21+1ν1expTE/T22. This relationship is plotted for T21=60ms and different values of ν1 and T22. When T22>T21, a decrease in f1 with increasing TE can be observed.
