1Herbage mass and allowance were determined on days 0 and 89 of each year. Herbage mass was calculated using the double sampling technique (Gonzalez et al., 1990). Herbage allowance was determined by dividing the average herbage mass of each pasture by the respective average total heifer BW on each respective pasture (Sollenberger et al., 2005). Heifers were provided, in a 2 × 2 factorial design, concentrate DM supplementation at 1.25% or 1.75% of BW offered either daily or 3X weekly from day 0 to 168 (2 yr; 64 heifers/yr; 4 pastures/treatment combination/yr).
