The cross-talk between autophagy and apoptosis for prevention of neurodegeneration in mild traumatic SCI.

Beclin-1 (pro-autophagic protein) and Bcl-2 (anti-apoptotic protein) after separation from each other cause induction of autophagy and inhibition of apoptosis, respectively. Also, p62 participates to promote autophagy and inhibit apoptosis. The end result of the cross-talk between the molecular components of autophagy and apoptosis is prevention of neurodegeneration.
