Categorizing analytic coding of action verbs
A total of thirty competencies had either implicit and explicit information skills and behaviors. These were categorized using the analytic coding of action verbs. There were five competencies that implied multiple types of information-searching behavior and skills. Each skill was represented separately, for a total of thirty-six coded action verbs. The searching category included the words “search” and “access.” The identifying category included only the verb “identify.” Six different verbs were included in the evaluating category: “interpret,” “analyze,” “evaluate,” “appraise,” “infer,” and “record” (due to the context of the competency's context). Two verbs did not fit in the other categories and were categorized in the other/application category: “develop” and “utilize.”
