Sleep is a stressor that is partly physical, partly ambient and partly psycho-emotive. These in-hospital stressors result in physiological responses. In addition to pre-existing comorbidities, the cognitive, cardiovascular, immune and functional deterioration and poor discharge planning lead to an increased risk of post hospital syndrome. This then leads to patients having increased vulnerability to readmission.
