The European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP) cordially invites hospital pharmacists and other interested healthcare professionals to join the Association’s 25th Anniversary Congress. Between 24th and 26th of March 2021, EAHP will celebrate the silver jubilee of its congress together with hospital pharmacy professionals from all over the world in Vienna, Austria.

To commemorate this special occasion, the Scientific Committee of EAHP has prepared an exciting programme touching on the future of the profession. Under the main headline ‘Hospital Pharmacy 5.0 – the future of patient care’, experts will share the latest advances in technologies that will shape the way how pharmaceutical care in hospitals will be delivered in the upcoming decades. By joining EAHP’s anniversary congress, participants will be able to attend keynotes, seminars and workshops focused on artificial intelligence, mHealth, 3D printing, personalised medicine and other subjects that will influence the work of hospital pharmacists towards the optimal outcomes for patients. Like every year, the congress programme will also feature Synergy Satellite events which are in 2021 looking at recent and innovative developments in the field of biosimilars and antithrombotic stewardship.

In case you are considering to submit an abstract to the upcoming Congress of EAHP make sure that you start your preparation. Abstract submission will be open between 1st August and 15th October 2020 for hospital pharmacists, other healthcare professionals and interested scientists.

Abstract authors are kindly reminded to read carefully and comply with the guidelines presented on EAHP’s website which outline the review process, provide guidance to those submitting abstracts for the first time and list tips on avoiding abstract rejection. Submissions of abstracts from all disciplines of hospital pharmacy or related areas are encouraged, provided that they can be linked to one of the 44 European Statements of Hospital Pharmacy.

Abstracts must be written in accordance with a pre-defined structure (background, purpose, materials and methods, results, conclusions) and they should not exceed the limit of 350 words. The online submission system will guide abstract authors through the process. Questions concerning the abstract submission process can be addressed to abstract@eahp.eu. The best abstracts/posters, with regards to aspects like originality, scientific quality and practical applicability, will be awarded with 3 prizes amounting to 750 euro, 500 euro and 250 euro.

EAHP and PGEU strengthen their collaboration

EAHP and the Pharmaceutical Group of the European Union (PGEU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to intensify the collaboration between community and hospital pharmacists. Both organisations are looking forward to fostering the development of the pharmacy profession. Key focus will be put on guaranteeing the safety of patients, supporting the seamless transition of care and maximising the benefits of pharmaceutical treatments and care.

EAHP’s President Petr Horák says “EAHP is looking forward to working with PGEU on forthcoming topics relevant to community and hospital pharmacists by signing this Memorandum of Understanding. There’s surely a great deal of work ahead of us to progress the goals of improving patient outcomes in Europe.”

EAHP will keep its members updated about the collaboration via its social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn) and its website.

EAHP and ESOP formalise collaboration through signature of MoU

In July, EAHP and the European Society of Oncology Pharmacy (ESOP) concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise the collaboration of hospital and oncology pharmacists. Both organisations are looking forward to work in the future on common issues.

Key focus will be put on awareness-raising linked to medicines shortages and hazardous medicinal products, the promotion of educational activities undertaken by EAHP and ESOP and the advancement and recognition of the hospital and oncology pharmacy specialisations in Europe. EAHP will keep its members updated about the collaboration via its social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn) and its website.

EAHP-ESCP video initiative goes live

In May and June 2020 the video initiative of the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP) and the European Society of Clinical Pharmacy (ESCP) collected best practice examples of clinical and hospital pharmacy services that made a difference for patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Short 2 to 3 minute videos have been made available on the initiatives YouTube channel to demonstrate how clinical and hospital pharmacists coped with the challenges posed by the novel coronavirus. Contributions were submitted from all across Europe touching for example on the preparation of disinfectants, the creation of new workflows and the resolution of medicines shortage problems.

As outlined in the call to action, clinical and hospital pharmacists can still submit their videos to EAHP and ESCP, despite the fact that the deadline has passed. There are no limitations apart from the fact that the video should fulfil minimum graphical quality standards and that is should be non-commercial and respect ethical and privacy standards. Thus, in case you have just finished your video contribution, please email it via we-transfer (https://wetransfer.com/) to COVID-19@eahp.eu and international.office@escpweb.org.
