(C) shows the corresponding settling time, as defined in the inset. It increases abruptly as the production rate gets closer to the critical rate Rc. The inset diagram shows the normalized concentrations in time for the case R = 1.5 × 10−3μM ⋅ day−1 = 1.15 Rc.
