Assessment
  • Quantifying attributable risk across common (shared) risk factors between periodontal disease and other non-communicable diseases.

  • Building a periodontal surveillance system for monitoring common risk factors and indicators which is universal and valid.

  • Using data science and technology to help develop a periodontal disease risk assessment tool based on the common risk factor approach ranging from population-based screenings to integrated medical-dental health care.

Policy Development
  • Educating oral health care providers that periodontal disease prevention and control requires both an individual approach and a public health approach to effect change and improve health.

  • Developing policy strategies for a public health approach that focuses on the common risk factor approach.

  • Addressing the social determinants of health through a more comprehensive systems approach.

Assurance
  • Implementing periodontal disease identification and prevention strategies that supports the primary health care team (which should also include oral health professionals).

  • Integrating health models with a more holistic approach considering modifiable risk factors that are shared with non-communicable diseases, such as tobacco use, vaping, alcohol consumption, elevated blood pressure and cholesterol, stress, and low health literacy.

  • Evaluating effectiveness of CFRA in reducing and controlling periodontal disease at the population level.
