α-Ketoglutarate (αKG) signal transduction pathway in intercalated cells (ICs). αKG acts on the OXGR1 receptor, which stimulates protein kinase C (PKC)-α through a Ca2+-dependent mechanism and stimulates PKC-δ to increase pendrin-dependent Cl absorption. The role of other type B IC transporters, known to modulate apical anion exchange, in αKG-induced Cl absorption is unknown.
