TABLE 3.

Association between changes, both acute (S2–S1) and changes due to training (S4–S1), in plasma BDNF (pBDNFS2–S1 or pBDNFS4–S1, respectively) and in serum BDNF (sBDNFS2–S1 or sBDNFS4–S1, respectively).

npairs τb p
Acute changes
pBDNFS2–S1vs. sBDNFS2–S1
COG 42 –0.12 0.26
PHYS 51 0.12 0.20
Changes due to training
pBDNFS4–S1vs. sBDNFS4–S1
CE 20 –0.13 0.46
PE 25 –0.21 0.16
CE + PE 22 0.01 0.96
PE + CE 25 –0.15 0.32

Separate analysis were performed for acute changes in groups COG (CE and CE + PE groups combined) and PHYS (PE and PE + CE groups combined), and for changes due to training in groups CE, PE, CE + PE, and PE + CE. Kendall’s tau-b (τb) correlation coefficients and its p-values were calculated. BDNF, brain-derived neurotrophic factor; npairs, number of pairs compared. The level of significance was set at p < 0.05.
