Two-dimensional representation of the separate positive and negative quality continuums of close relationships. Close relationships are characterized as high or low in positive and high or low in negative aspects. High-quality relationships (high positive, low negative) fall into the upper-left quadrant, and low-quality relationships (low positive, high negative) in the lower-right quadrant. Ambivalent relationships (high positive, high negative) fall into the upper-right quadrant, and indifferent (low positive, low negative) into the lower-left quadrant.
