Excitation of the system leads to an ultrafast population and decay of the Q-state (the porphyrin LUMO), as established by fluorescence up-conversion studies (70); the IS S = 3/2 state is promptly populated and decays in ∼650 fs to the HS S = 5/2 state, which then decays back to the ground state in ∼10 ps.
