IL-36α causes an increase in the expression of hair follicle stem/progenitor cell markers in mice skin. A total of 50 μL of 1 ng/μL mrIL-36α dissolved in PBS or PBS only was injected intradermally into two separate dorsal regions of skin of 7-week-old mice for 3 days. (A) The relative mRNA expression levels of hair follicle stem/progenitor cell markers (Lgr5, Lgr6, Lrig1, K15, and CD34) in mrIL-36α-injected region and control region were evaluated using real time quantitative PCR (n = 4). Total epithelial cells were subjected to flow cytometry analysis after staining for CD34, CD49f and Pcad. Flow cytometry analysis of hair follicle stem/progenitor cells marked by CD34+CD49f+ (B,C) and CD34 CD49f+Pcadhi (D,E) (*p < 0.05, **p < 0.005, n = 4).
