Table 3.
Comparison of diffuse bone marrow uptake of 18F-FDG and 99mTc-sestamibi in multiple myeloma
| FDG-PET/CTa n (%) |
Sestamibi planar + SPECT/CTb n (%) | |
|---|---|---|
| Abnormal diffuse bone marrow uptake | 36 (58%) | 48 (78%) |
| Intensity of uptake | ||
| Mild | – | 21 (34%) |
| Moderate | 20 (32.2%) | 22 (36%) |
| Marked | 16 (25.8%) | 5 (8.0%) |
FDG, 18F-fluorodeoxiglucose; MIBI, 99mTc-sestamibi; –, number of patients.
18F-FDG, diffuse bone marrow uptake intensity: moderate (similar to hepatic uptake); marked (distinctly above hepatic uptake). Mild bone marrow uptake (bellow hepatic uptake) was considered normal.
99mTc-sestamibi: diffuse bone marrow uptake intensity: mild (bellow myocardium), moderate (similar to myocardium), marked (above myocardium).
