(b) Interference signal is generated by the reflected signal at the fiber end (light intensity I1) and diamond membrane (light intensity I2). The cavity length d depends on the pressure difference ΔP on the two membrane surfaces, creating a displacement Δd from the position when the same ambient pressure is applied.
