Modelling of the complex formed by binding of cGAS to the 145-nucleosome. (A) cGAS binds nucleosomal DNA using the “A site”. (B) Multiple cGAS molecules bind to one nucleosome to form a cGAS_n-nucleosome₁ complex. The cGAS_n-nucleosome₁ model was obtained by docking 145-nucleosome (PDB code: 3LZ0) onto the major dsDNA binding region (“A site”) of cGAS based on the crystal structure of the cGAS₁-dsDNA₁ complex (PDB code: 4KB6).
