Roles of periostin in wound healing. Skin wound healing is activated immediately after injury, which initiated with spatiotemporally regulated secretion of several key mediators, like IFs, CKs, MPs. Various cells related to repair are recruited at the lesion under stimulation of these mediators and secrete more key mediators in reaction. Periostin, as a matricellular protein, plays important roles in wound healing. It can promote fibroblast proliferation, differentiation, migration and collagen synthesis, accelerate the formation of granulation tissue, and finally lead to wound closure.
