Axial bulk motion for a range of M-scan and B-scan rates. Average phase difference between successive M-scans with (a) 0.5 kHz, 1 kHz and 2 kHz frame rates show severe phase wrapping that prevents its optimal correction and with (b) 4 kHz, 8kHz, 12 kHz and 16 kHz frame rates show no phase wrapping enabling accurate correction of axial bulk motion. (c) The average phase difference between successive B-scans along the scan direction in a volume shows no phase wrapping when measured in the range between 4–16 kHz B-scan rates. (d) Axial bulk motion quantified as average phase difference in the two modes of operation – M-scan and multiple B-scans per volume, decreases monotonically with increasing frame rate. The error bars denote the mean variability, calculated as the mean of the standard deviation across the 10 measurements for each speed.
