Double fluorescent staining of a case with Alzheimer’s disease. Amyloid plaque (A) and neurofibrillary tangle (NFT) (B) evidenced by the dye thioflavin S (TS, green channel) and thiazine red (TR, red channel). Both markers co-locate, giving a yellow color in the merged channel. TS and TR demonstrate the fibrillar state with the β-folded conformation of the amyloid β-peptide (Aβ) and the tau protein assembled into filaments. Scale bar (A) 20 μm, (B) 10 μm.
