Reuterin works in synergy with antibiotics to promote ROS and cell death. Susceptibility of CD2015 to vancomycin (A) or metronidazole (B) was tested and ROS measured by staining DCFH-DA after treatment with glycerol or reuterin. Cell death was assessed by the dead cell stain Propidium iodide (excitation: 535, emission: 617) after exposure to vancomycin (C) and metronidazole (D). Cell viability was confirmed by CFUs counts for CD2015 treated with vancomycin (E) and metronidazole (F) (n = 3 replicates, repeated 2 independent times).
