Our calculated percent of variance was accounted for in outcomes using pseudo-ΔR² (Kenny et al., 2006). In step 1, pseudo-ΔR² reflects the additional variance explained by the prosocial orientation measure included in that model. Pseudo-ΔR² in model 1 was calculated by comparing model 1 to a model including only self-focused reasons for giving as the predictor. In step 2, pseudo-ΔR² reflects the additional variance explained when compassionate goals are added to the model.
