Fig. 1 — Methodology overview. Rats were injected with either S. elongatus, sterile saline or LPS, and monitored according to the depicted metrics over the course of 4 weeks. After 4 weeks, a subset of animals in the experimental S. elongatus group (n = 8) and negative control saline group (n = 8) received an additional identical injection and were similarly assessed for another 4 weeks before necropsy.
