Anisotropic property of polyiodides on the spherulite. For the polarization microscopy, iodine-stained spherulites were prepared by adding a small amount of concentrated iodine solution containing 24 mM KI and 3.2 mM I2 to the spherulites formed between slide and cover glasses at an insulin concentration of 5.0 mg/ml. In each image, the direction of the analyzer slit is represented with a double-headed arrow in the upper right. Scale bars represent 10 μm. The images of an unstained spherulite recorded by the same procedure are shown in Fig. S6 for a reference.
