There are five main principles which may help health economists consider and approach patient involvement: Planning, Approach selection, Continuous involvement, Team building, and Sensitivity.
A “task-based” approach to patient involvement can help with the more technical aspects of health economics research.
The development of ongoing patient–health economist partnerships can enrich patient involvement, ensuring it is non-tokenistic, meaningful, and helpful.
