(a) Variants of the major capsid protein (PAO723, G8P) present in the Pf prophages and net charges of their hydrophilic regions, that is, exposed to the environment (Zimmermann et al. 1986). G8P proteins without 26-bp signal sequences were showed, and Protein Calculator v3.4 (http://protcalc.sourceforge.net/; last accessed January 2020) was used to estimate their net charges.
