Mitochondrial superoxide was quantified in platelets and PBMCs from Simvastatin users (N = 34) and controls (N = 15) (A and C). Where indicated, Simvastatin users were stratified according to presence (N = 12) or absence (N = 22) of self-reported myalgia (B, D). Values shown are mean ± S.E.M. A subset of 24 Simvastatin users were dosed with placebo (E, H; N = 11) or Q10 (F, G, I, J; N = 13) for 8 weeks. Platelets (EG) and PBMCs (HJ) were isolated and analyzed for mitochondrial superoxide before and after treatment, as indicated. Q10-treated patients were stratified according to the presence (N = 6) or absence of myalgia, as indicated (G, J). Mitochondrial superoxide was measured in arbitrary units (A.U.) and values shown are mean ± S.E.M.
