Bone remodeling follows a U-shaped curve and is activated by either disuse or overuse. Typical use between these two extremes is shown by the physiological window, during which there is low bone turnover. In contrast, periosteal bone formation increases directly with an increase in mechanical loading and is low during disuse [2].
