Results of the on-line spelling tasks. For each participant, the classification accuracy, average selection time, information transfer rate (ITR), and output characters per minute (OCM) after letter-by-letter spelling with the 4-target speller, letter-by-letter spelling with the 32-target speller and dictionary-assisted spelling with the 32-target speller are presented. The letter-by-letter spelling task was the same for both systems (the pangram “THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPS OVER THE LAZY DOG”). The dictionary-assisted spelling task was an English sentence (for each participant, an individual sentence ranging from 24 to 51 characters). The dashed lines indicate the means across participants.
