Malaria Chemoprophylaxis in Pregnancy

 • 300 mg base (500mg salt) orally, once/week
 • 310mg base (400mg salt) orally, once/week
 • Begin 1–2 weeks before travel to malarious areas.
 • Take weekly on the same day of the week while in the malarious area
 • Continue for 4 weeks after leaving such areas.
 • Avoid use in chloroquine-resistant regions
 • Hypersensitivity to chloroquine and 4-aminoquinoline compounds
 • The presence of retinal or visual field changes of any etiology.a
Mefloquine  • 228 mg base (250 mg salt) orally, once/week  • Begin ≥2 weeks before travel to malarious areas.
 • Take weekly on the same day of the week while in the malarious area
 • Continue for 4 weeks after leaving such areas.
 • Hypersensitivity to mefloquine, related compounds
 • Patients with a history of seizures or psychiatric disorder.b
