Table 3. Hazard ratio for baseline ETV, absolute ETV change and ETV% with and without MR bias field correction.

Variables Without MR bias field correction With MR bias field correction
Hazard ratio (95% CI) P Hazard ratio (95% CI) P
Baseline ETV 1.061 (1.029, 1.093) <0.001 1.161 (1.066, 1.265) <0.001
Absolute ETV change 1.010 (0.982, 1.039) 0.49 1.038 (0.932, 1.157) 0.50
ETV% 1.003 (0.979, 1.028) 0.79 0.663 (0.535, 0.822) <0.001

Main findings:•Both baseline ETV and ETV% are factors related to prognosis for MR bias field corrected images, whereas only baseline ETV was a prognostic factor for images without MR bias field correction.•With MR bias field correction, when baseline ETV increased by 100 cm3, the mortality rate increased by about 16%.•With MR bias field correction, when ETV% decreased by 10%, the mortality rate decreased by about 34%.
