Illustration of interhemispheric imbalance post stroke in the rat [17]. The contralesional hemisphere becomes more excitable and exerts a stronger inhibition onto the ipsilesional hemisphere tissue because of unilateral cortical stroke that diminishes its inhibition to the contralesional hemisphere.
