Possible roles of glioma-associated oncogene (GLI) 1 and GLI2 regulation by protein arginine methyl transferase (PRMT) 1, PRMT5, and PRMT7. PRMT1, PRMT5, and PRMT7 regulate GLI1 and GLI2 activity on multiple levels. PRMT1 modulates GLI1 activity and context-dependent GLI1 target gene expression. PRMT5 and PRMT7-mediated GLI regulation would modulate the ratio of GLIA and GLIR. PRMTs may also regulate GLI target gene expression via histone modifications. This regulatory machinery may regulate the widespread context-dependent outputs of GLI.
