For articles reporting both infected and non-infected neonates, only those with proven infection (defined as at least one positive nasopharyngeal swab, and/or the presence of specific IgM) were included in the review. The methodological quality of case reports and case series was evaluated using the Mayo Evidence-Based Practice Center tool103, specifically dedicated to the quality evaluation of this type of articles and summarized both as a 0–8 score and as overall qualitative evaluation. The tool was not applied to the retrospective cohort or cross-sectional studies included in the review.
