BALB/c mice were inoculated with the indicated dose of the pal KO mutant strain using a Microsprayer device. Thirty days later, the animals were challenged with 6,000 CFU of B. mallei ATCC 23344 using the Microsprayer. Age- and weight-matched mice vaccinated with PBS using a were used as controls.
