Ulinastatin ameliorates cerebral I/R injury. SD rats were divided into the sham, MCAO, and ulinastatin groups. Cerebral I/R injury was induced by MCAO. Ulinastatin was administered at a dosage of 300,000 U/kg 15 min after surgery. The brain tissues of the rats were collected. (A) HE and TUNEL staining of brain tissues observed, scale bar: 50 μm; (B) apoptosis rates of cells quantized with Image J (brown stained); (C) The brain tissues were stained with TCC. (D) The infraction volume characterized with TCC staining was quantized with Image J. (E) Relative protein expressions of caspase-3 and ICAM-1 were detected by Western blot and quantized by Image J. The bars show means ± SD of 4 independent experiments. **, P<0.01 compared with the sham group; ##, P<0.01 compared with the MCAO group.
