Sprague Dawley rats were anaesthetised as described in the methods. Excision wounds were created and evaluated systematically on days 0, 2, 5, 7, 9, 13, 15 and 21 for macroscopic wound healing indices (0 = Absent, 1–2 = Mild, 3–4 = Moderate, 5–6 = Severe). Data is present as mean ± SEM of wound exudation indices. Statistical analysis is by One-way ANOVA. * means p < 0.05, ** p < 0.01, *** p < 0.001, **** p < 0.0001 when compared to control using Bonferroni's post hoc test
