Intestinal bacteria in green indicate microbes able to detoxify the toxicants, which are deficient in ASD. More toxicants may enter circulation if the function of intestinal microbial detoxification is impaired, and accumulation of toxicants in tissues potentially causes injury in mitochondria or other structure/function integrity, representing the featured manifestations of ASD.
