Comparison of microglial antibody expression after different trauma survival times. While IBA1 is expressed in a lethal traumatic brain injury case with a survival time of 10 min, showing activated microglia in acute vicinity of lesion and ramified cells in adjacent areas, MHCII immunostaining stayed negative (ac, cerebellar contusion). Another fatal head injury with a survival time of 7 days showed changes in microglial morphology, migrating macrophages, and also altered antigen expression (di, frontal contusion). Scale bars ae; gi, 100 μm; f, 25 μm
