The impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection in patients referred for urgent cardiac surgery is largely unknown. We experienced a major SARS-CoV-2 outbreak in our cardiac surgery unit, with 18 patients who tested positive early after surgery and 2 after TAVR. Three patients died. COVID-19 diagnosis after cardiac surgery may be difficult due to the systemic inflammatory state that follows the CPB.
