Influence of acidic pH on growth of S. aureus USA300 in the presence of linoleic acid (LA; C_18:2), arachidonic acid (AA; C_20:4), palmitoleic acid (PA; C_16:1), or sapienic acid (SA; C_16:1). Triplicate flasks of TSB or TSB (pH 5.5) were supplemented with indicated concentrations of LA (A), LA or AA (B), and PA or SA (C) and inoculated to an initial optical density measured at 600 nm (OD₆₀₀) of 0.01. Growth (OD₆₀₀) was assessed at hourly intervals, and each data point represents the mean ± SE from triplicate flasks.
