Plants were cultivated under two water conditions: “Well watered” as a regular watering or “Drought + Recovery”, consisting of watering for 35 days, then suspending the irrigation for a period of 55 days, followed by 24 days with watering at field capacity. Ψo saturation = osmotic potential at inner water saturation; Ψo TLP = osmotic potential at the turgor loss point; apoplastic RWC = relative water content in the apoplast; Emax = coefficient of maximum elasticity. Measurements were made in a branch excised from each of 6 plants per treatment. Results are expressed as means ± SEM. Different letters indicate significant differences in a two-way ANOVA (P-value < 0.05). NS = non-significant.
