FIGURE 3

In vivo mouse brain MRI images depicted as the apparent diffusion coefficient of water (ADCW), as per the calibration bar. Extracellular water has a higher apparent diffusion coefficient than intracellular water, and the methods can be used to address differences in the extracellular space across conditions. (A) Depicts a coronal view and a sagittal view of the brain, including the cortex and the globus pallidus (GP; zoomed insert), respectively. (B) Depicts corresponding sections from the brain of a Huntington’s disease mouse model. It is apparent that water diffusion in the ventricles is much higher than in denser parenchyma, as expected.
